Nelson’s workshop is lovely. He employs four other people who’s names are Vitor, Maria, Agostinha and Teresa (also his wife).
Nelson and his team have been crafting the Worn Again and Worn Again Virgin ranges to a seriously high standard. They take great pride in their work and so do we!
When we visited Nelson, he was proud to take us through staff wages, which was displayed on the notice board at the entrance of the work shop. The minimum wage in Portugal is 426 Euros/ month. Employees at Nelson’s workshop all make between 440-580 Euros.
Although the cost of production is slightly higher in Portugal than it is in China, it’s much easier to get to and we’re able to have closer communications with the people making our products, despite the occasional challenge of the language barrier.
